Tuesday, April 2, 2013 — The South Stanly baseball team looked to continue their strong start to the season after reaching the Easter break with their win streak intact, including wins over East Montgomery (5-4) and North Moore (2-1).

South Stanly travelled to West Brunswick High School to participate in the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational starting on Monday, with three games scheduled for the holiday tournament.

The Bulls were immediately tested in their opening game. In a rematch of the 2009 1A state finals series between South and Topsail, the Bulls rallied for a 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Russ Weiker earned the win for the Bulls (14-0), allowing two earned runs on five hits in earning the complete-game victory.

Jordan Starnes and Chase Poplin each had RBI hits in the game, while as a team, the Bulls showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks.
