West Stanly tops Butler, Monroe; North Stanly wins at Forest Hills; Gray Stone loses to East Montgomery

Thursday, April 4, 2013 — In high school softball action last week, West Stanly hosted 4A Butler High School and played a doubleheader against Monroe, while North Stanly had two Rocky River Conference road games as well.

Wednesday’s Games

West Stanly 14

Butler 3

The Colts followed up their win at home Tuesday against North Stanly by jumping out to an 8-1 lead enroute to a 14-3 non-conference win over 4A Butler High School.

Forest Hills 8

The North Stanly Comets overcame a six-run deficit on Wednesday and rallied for an 11-8 road win at Forest Hills.

Thursday’s Games

West Stanly 15-17

Monroe 0-2

In a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, the West Stanly Colts easily earned two RRC wins over the Monroe Redhawks.

In the opening game, Brennan Broadway took the win on the mound for West.

She got a great deal of offensive support as the Colts scored nine runs in the first inning and six runs in the second to invoke the 15-run rule.

The second game of the twinbill saw Maddie Brown get the win on the mound for the Colts.

West scored eight runs in the first two innings and added one in the third for another 15-run rule victory.

The Colts are scheduled to travel to Central Academy next Tuesday and host Forest Hills next Thursday.

Piedmont 6

North Stanly 2

North Stanly finished their last game before the Easter break with a 6-2 road loss at Piedmont.

The Comets led 1-0 before a six-run sixth inning from the Panthers lifted the home team to the win.

East Montgomery 12

Gray Stone 6

The Gray Stone Knights fell to 5-5 overall with a 12-6 road loss at the East Montgomery Eagles on Thursday.

Gray Stone took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly from Katie Kepley and a two-RBI double to left field from Cat Morgan.

East Montgomery rallied in the bottom of the first with five runs, benefitting from three Knights errors, to lead 5-3 after one inning.

The Eagles added two to their lead in the fourth before the Knights answered in the top of the fifth. Kepley delivered a three-run home run, cutting the lead to 7-6.

Gray Stone travels to South Stanly for a doubleheader with the Bulls next Tuesday.
