In a tri-match held on Wednesday at Albemarle, West Montgomery earned victories over the Bulldogs and North Stanly.
Albemarle won in their head-to-head team match-up over the Comets.
North Stanly 24
On the mat, Bulldog Grant Plyler pinned North’s Alex Whitley in the 126-pounds matchup in a time of 34 seconds.
Jaylyn Potter earned a pinfall win for Albemarle at 152 pounds in 35 seconds over North’s Darien Morris.
The other pinfall win of the dual went to Kendrick Carter at 170 pounds for the Bulldogs. Carter pinned Comet Brandon Byrd in 41 seconds.
The Bulldogs earned six forfeit wins in the match versus North, while the Comets had four forfeit wins.
West Montgomery 54
The Bulldogs opened the dual versus the visiting Warriors with a win at 106 pounds as Tate Plyler won by a majority decision 12-2 over West’s Avery Pipkin.
West Montgomery earned forfeit wins at 113 and 120 before Albemarle got a pinfall win at 126 pounds as Grant Plyler pinned Warrior Karrick Bennett in 2:17.
The Warriors rallied for a pinfall win at 132 pounds as Matthew Harkins pinned Albemarle’s Michael Yang.
After another forfeit win at 138, Kittipong Phothisane of West Montgomery won by pinfall over Ross Plyler in 2:33.
Jaylyn Potter made it two wins on the night with a win for the Bulldogs at 152 pounds with a pinfall win in 1:04 over West’s Robert Woodard.
The next two matches went to West Montgomery as Alan Calderon-Chavez (160) and John Smith (170) earned pinfal wins over Tyler Glover and Kendrick Carter, respectively.
At 182 pounds, Albemarle’s Cale Gardner earned a pinfall win in 3:27 over Henry Christian.
Jacob Deaton added a pinfall win of his own for the Bulldogs at 195 pounds.
West Montgomery then added forfeit wins at 220 and 285 to round out the match.
West Montgomery 69
North Stanly 12
The Comets earned two pinfall victories in their matchup with the Warriors.
At 152 pounds, North Stanly’s Darien Morris earned a pinfall win in 1:08 over West Montgomery’s Robert Woodard.
Then at 220 pounds, North’s Jacob Cratty pinned West Montgomery’s Fernano Hernandez in 1:38.
The Warriors posted pinfall wins at 113, 126, 145 and 170 pounds, while in the heavyweight matchup, West’s Shawn Cranford earned a 5-0 decision win over Mark Cheek.

Stanly All-Star 15 year-olds lose in championship finals
The Stanly County 15 year-old All-Stars Babe Ruth Baseball team battled its way through the losers’ bracket after suffering a 10-9 loss to the Union County Americans to reach the championship finals.
Stanly rallied to force a deciding third game but Union County prevailed to earn a trip to the regionals in Varina, Virginia.

The Stanly 14 year-old All-Stars played in the state tournament this weekend at Noel Williams Park in Unionville and reached the championship round of play.

Don Montgomery Park in Albemarle played host this weekend to the state championship tournament for the Western Divsion of Babe Ruth Baseball for 13 year olds.
After having started with a win Friday night over Union County American, the Stanly County All-Stars posted three more victories en route to the tournament title and a berth into the regionals starting July 29 in Sarasota, Florida.
