Tuesday, October 23, 2012 — The West Stanly varsity volleyball squad came up just short of winning the Rocky River Conference championship last season, finishing in second place to Piedmont and reaching the second round of the playoffs.

This year, the Colts lost just one time  in conference after running off 12 straight wins in the RRC, finishing the regular season with a 13-1 conference record to claim the conference championship.

Head coached by Lee Lewis, the West Stanly Colts entered this year’s 2A state playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the RRC with an overall record of 18-2.

This year’s senior players (Devan Fincher, Itccel Jaramillo, Emily Morgan, Alex Poplin and Jennifer Roberts) have only lost six matches in their high school careers, including going 15-0 and 19-1 in their JV careers as freshman and sophomores.

Last season, West finished with a 20-3 overall record, having won 38 of 43 matches over the past two varsity seasons, reaching the second round.
