Stanly County Legion juniors stay undefeated

Thursday, June 12, 2014 — The junior baseball team representing Stanly County American Legion Post 76 is off to one of the best starts in recent history.

After posting three road wins with a home win in between, Stanly County continued its hot start to the season with wins Monday night at Uwharrie Charter and at home Tuesday versus Montgomery County.

The last of Stanly’s four-game non-conference road swing wrapped up on Monday night when Post 76 took a 6-0 lead early and cruised to a 10-3 win.

Carson Lisenby allowed two earned runs and scattered eight hits for the win for Stanly with no walks and four strikeouts.

Stanly scored four runs in the top of the first. Preston Burleson drew a bases-loaded walk, Mason Sweet later scored on a wild pitch and Andrew Kitts delivered an RBI single scoring Seth Smyly. Burleson then scored on the throw on Kitts’ hit.

In the top of the second, Will Moore drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI and Smyly delivered an RBI sacrifice fly for a 6-0 Stanly lead.

Stanly scored two in the fifth then Carson Lisenby added a two-RBI double in the sixth.

The juniors improved to 6-0 this season with a 9-2 home win.

Jarrod Swaringen picked up the complete-game win for Stanly.

Leading 1-0, Will Moore delivered the first of two RBI doubles in the second inning.

Seth Smyly added two RBIs in the fourth inning.

    Don Montgomery Park in Albemarle played host this weekend to the state championship tournament for the Western Divsion of Babe Ruth Baseball for 13 year olds.
    After having started with a win Friday night over Union County American, the Stanly County All-Stars posted three more victories en route to the tournament title and a berth into the regionals starting July 29 in Sarasota, Florida.
