For the third consecutive season, members of the West Stanly baseball program will compete in the Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League.
The team is made up of members of the Colt varsity and JV squads from the 2014 season. West will play in the seven-team Southwest Division against Anson County, Richmond County, Scotland County, Southern Pines, Union Pines and Waxhaw.
A total of 44 teams in eight divisions are competing in the CCSSL this season across North Carolina, including playoffs and an all-star game.
This season, West Stanly has jumped out to a fast start with three straight victories.
The Colts opened the season on Monday with a 15-3 win at Union Pines, then returned home on Tuesday and rallied in the bottom of the seventh for a 10-9 win on Daniel Efird’s walk-off two RBI double.
On Thursday, West Stanly made it back-to-back home wins with an xx-xx win over Anson County.
Hunter Martin, Eric Huneycutt and Chris Herrin have each picked up victories on the mound for West.
Leading the offense are juniors Hunter Doby (4-for-8) and Cody Cline (5-for-8) and seniors Efird (8-for-13) and Cameron Harman (-for-8). Both Efird and Harman have had home runs as well.
As a team, West Stanly is batting .382 and has scored 36 runs in three games.
West plays at Anson County on Monday, then returns home the next day for a doubleheader with Waxhaw starting at 4 p.m. at The Ball Park at West Stanly.
