Chuck Morehead Park was buzzing with speed on Thursday at the second annual Vac & Dash Cross Country Clash.
Rocky River and Yadkin Valley runners mixed it up for the first time this year with West Stanly and Mount Pleasant joining North Stanly, Gray Stone, West Montgomery, South Stanly and Albemarle for the 3.1-mile race through the woods.
Trophies were given to the top boys and girls team. The top 10 runners received long-sleeved T-shirts and medals.
The boys started first, with Mount Pleasant’s Josh Lambert taking the lead and withstood a challenge from Gray Stone’s Dennis Collins to take first place with a time of 19:00. Gray Collins took second 11 seconds later.

Rounding out the top 10 were West Montgomery’s Chris Pipkin (seventh-20:04), and Nick Batten (10th-20:16), Gray Stone’s Patrick Parsons (eighth– 20:13) and North Stanly’s Noah Lancaster (ninth-20:15).
