In high school baseball action last week, the South Stanly Rebel Bulls varsity squad claimed a share of the Yadkin Valley Conference regular-season title with wins over North Rowan and Chatham Central.
Other results included Albemarle earning a YVC win over Gray Stone, West Stanly falling on a weekend game to Piedmont in Rocky River Conference play Saturday and a thrilling end for North Stanly fans in the Comets’ home game Monday against Central Academy.
South Stanly 11
North Rowan 1
Having suffered only their second loss of the season earlier in the week to West Montgomery, the Rebel Bulls bounced back in strong fashion on Thursday night with an 11-1 YVC road win at North Rowan.
Gray Stone 1
The Bulldogs played host to Gray Stone on Thursday evening and overcame an early one-run deficit to improve to 9-12 overall and 7-6 in the YVC with a 4-1 win over the Knights (2-11, 2-10).
South Stanly 2
Chatham Central 0
South grabbed at the least a share of the YVC regular-season title Saturday with a 2-0 win at Chatham Central.
West Stanly 3
The West Stanly Colts suffered a conference loss to Piedmont 6-3 in nine innings on Saturday evening.
North Stanly 5
Central Academy 3
North Stanly catcher Zac Almond made his only hit in Monday’s 5-3 Rocky River Conference home win over Central Academy matter the most.
Almond’s walk-off three-run homer capped a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and gave the Comets the victory, improving North’s record to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in the RRC.
