In a Yadkin Valley Conference wrestling match on Wednesday night in Norwood, the South Stanly Rebel Bulls earned a 45-33 win over West Montgomery.
The 12-point win as a team was the fifth team win as a season for the Rebel Bulls and the third against an opponent from the YVC.
At 106 pounds, South’s Cody Shields earned a technical victory over West Montgomery’s Avery Pipkin. Shields improved his overall record this season to 22-5 with the win.
Drew Jackson gave South a victory in the 120-pound match with a 15-7 majority decision over Austin Freeman.
Daniel Helms and Cody Pugh each added pinfall wins for the Bulls at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively. Helms pinned Warrior Charlie Chavez in a time of 1:45, and Pugh’s win came in 1:20 over West’s Tykerius Little.
In the 152-pound matchup, South’s Montrell Brewer earned a pinfall win for the Bulls in a time of 2:45 over Alec Parsons.
Brandon Lowery kept the match going for South Stanly with a 1:15 pinfall win over West’s Walker Heath. Lowery improved his overall record to 11-7 this season.
South Stanly had two more pinfall victories on the evening as Sawyer Bartlett and Jonathan Beachum both earned wins at 182 and 220 pounds, respectively.
Bartlett pinned West Montgomery’s Henry Christian in 1:30 and improved his overal individual record to 19-9.
Beachum won in a time of 2:45 over West’s Fernando Hernandez.
