Gray Stone stays undefeated with win over Albemarle; Parkwood tops West Stanly

Thursday, March 27, 2014 — In recent girls’ soccer matchups, the Gray Stone Knights traveled to North Stanly to face the Comets while West Stanly hosted Parkwood in a Rocky River Conference matchup.

Gray Stone 7, North Stanly 0

The Knights stayed undefeated on the season and won for the 23rd time in the last 24 matches, notching a 7-0 road win at North Stanly on a chilly Wednesday evening.

Annie Habeeb led the offense for Gray Stone (6-0, 4-0 YVC West) with two goals and an assist. Kate Sullivan added two goals and both Maggie Habeeb and Wesleigh Harrington had a goal and an assist for the Knights.

Stefi Dejak had the other goal for the Knights, assisted by Kelsey Kiser, in the 10th minute to put the Knights on the scoreboard.

In the 20th minute, Annie Habeeb’s first goal started a four-goal stretch for Gray Stone over the next three minutes.

In the 39th minute, Annie Habeeb scored her second goal of the game to give the Knights a 6-0 halftime advantage.

Maggie Habeeb scored in the 62nd minute to round out the scoring in the game.

Elauna Pettigrew made one save and earned the shutout win in goal for Gray Stone.

The Knights travel to Queen’s Grant while the Comets host Union Academy on Monday.

Parkwood 10, West Stanly 1

The Colts fell to 0-7 overall this season and suffered a 10-1 loss to Parkwood in West’s first conference game on Wednesday.

Ashley Arrowood scored the lone goal of the game for West Stanly, assisted by Brittany Huneycutt.

The two teams play again on Monday at Parkwood.
