West Stanly wins big over Forest Hills; South Stanly loses to Hickory Grove Christian; Gray Stone falls to North Moore

Sunday, April 6, 2014 — The softball season continued this week as West Stanly looked to continue a win streak while South Stanly hosted Hickory Grove Christian in a non-conference matchup and Gray Stone traveled to North Moore.

Thursday’s Games

W. Stanly 18, Forest Hills 0

The Colts entered Thursday’s Rocky River Conference road game at Forest Hills with a win streak dating back to March 24.

After having lost two games to Porter Ridge, a 4-2 win over Central Cabarrus was the start of the team’s seven-game win streak, which includes an 18-0 five-inning win at the Yellow Jackets.

Brennan Broadaway earned the win on the mound for West Stanly (10-4, 5-0 RRC), allowing just one hit over five innings of work.

The Colts belted out 23 hits as a team. Maddie Brown led the way at the plate for West with a perfect 5-for-5 effort, with Broadaway adding three hits. Abby Pate, Heidi Foreman, Callie Cline and Regan Johnson each added two hits for the Colts.

West hosts Northwest Cabarrus Monday.

Hickory Grove Christian 2, South Stanly 1

The Bulls played their third home game in three nights Thursday after losing to West Montgomery 2-1 and beating Queen’s Grant 15-0.

In extra innings, the visiting Hickory Grove Christian Lions pushed a run across in the top of the eight inning for a 2-1 win.

North Moore 4, Gray Stone 3

The Knights rallied from a three-run deficit to pull into a tie with the host Mustangs but a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh lifted North Moore to a 4-3 win over the Knights.

    Don Montgomery Park in Albemarle played host this weekend to the state championship tournament for the Western Divsion of Babe Ruth Baseball for 13 year olds.
    After having started with a win Friday night over Union County American, the Stanly County All-Stars posted three more victories en route to the tournament title and a berth into the regionals starting July 29 in Sarasota, Florida.
