In recent softball games, Albemarle ended a long losing streak with a home win over Queen’s Grant while Gray Stone earned a last-inning win over Union Academy.
Albemarle 16, Queen’s Grant 1
The last win for the Bulldogs on a softball field came in April of 2012 when Albemarle beat South Davidson 13-3. That 25-game losing streak came to an end last Thursday when the Bulldogs battled the rain and the Stallions, winning 16-1 in four innings.
Freshman Caroline Brown earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-1 YVC West), walking four and striking out eight.
Senior McKinley Almond led the effort for Albemarle at the plate with two hits, while Carson Howard, Olivia Hudson and Jabree Bogan each collected hits.
Gray Stone 2, Union Academy 1
Gray Stone earned its first in the new YVC West Conference with a dramatic 2-1 walk off win last week against the Cardinals.
Sydney Freeman earned the win for the Knights (2-3, 1-1 YVC West) in relief of starter Savannah Poole, who allowed no earned runs on two hits in five innings of work.
The Cardinals (1-6, 1-2) scored in the top of the fourth inning with an unearned run but the Knights answered in the seventh. Rebekah Robinson singled with one out and scored on a Savannah Hartsell double to tie the game. Hartsell later scored on a throwing error to give Gray Stone the victory.
Gray Stone hosts East Montgomery today.
