Albemarle hosts first-ever varsity holiday tourney

Yadkin Valley Diamond Classic opens on Wednesday

Tuesday, April 2, 2013 — The Albemarle High School varsity baseball squad, in conjunction with the Albemarle Parks and Recreation Department, will have a varsity holiday tournament at Don Montgomery Park opening on Wednesday.

Using a format like the one that has been used at the annual Easter JV tournament, two pools of three teams play two games each on Wednesday and Thursday, with the championship games scheduled for Friday.

Ties will be broken with the following rules, in order of importance: head-to-head matchup, runs allowed, runs scored and a coin toss.

Albemarle will be in Pool A, joined by Southlake Christian (6-2) and West Columbus (6-7). The B pool features North Stanly, Anson County (0-11) and Voyager Academy (5-3).

Wednesday’s Games

1 p.m. –  Southlake Christian vs. West Columbus

4 p.m. –  Albemarle vs. Southlake Christian

7 p.m. –  Anson County vs. North Stanly

Thursday’s Games

1 p.m. –  Anson County vs. Voyager Academy

4 p.m. –  Albemarle vs. West Columbus

7 p.m. –  North Stanly vs. Voyager Academy

Friday’s Games

1 p.m. –  Fifth Place Game

4 p.m. –  Third Place Game

7 p.m. –  Championship
