Albemarle posts conference wins; North Stanly loses to Cuthbertson; West Stanly loses to Hickory Ridge

Thursday, April 11, 2013 — In high school baseball games this week, Albemarle earned two conference victories, while South Stanly hosted Gray Stone and North Stanly hosted Cuthbertson. West Stanly played at Central Academy Tuesday and at home Wednesday against Hickory Ridge.

Monday’s Game

South Davidson 1

The Bulldogs returned to conference play in strong fashion Monday at South Davidson as a seven-run inning led to a 12-1 five-inning win over the Wildcats.

Zac Brafford singled to right in the top of the second inning, starting the seven-run inning. He later scored on an error while Bryan Blanton delivered one of his three RBIs in the second scoring Paul Cagle.

Gray Stone 1

The Bulls swept the season series with Gray Stone and improved to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the Yadkin Valley Conference with the five-inning victory.

Seven different South batters drove in runs while five Bulls pitchers combined on the mound to hold the Knights to one earned run on one hit.

North Moore 0

Albemarle followed up their road win on Monday with a 7-0 home shutout over North Moore on Tuesday.

Bulldog starter Justin Crump picked up his first win of the season in shutting out the Mustangs, allowing three hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Comets fell to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the RRC with a 4-2 home loss to Cuthbertson (10-5, 6-1).

West Stanly 5

A late seventh-inning rally for West Stanly came up just short as the Colts suffered a 7-5 loss at The Ball Park at West Stanly Wednesday night to Hickory Ridge.

Collin Sprinkle pitched six innings for the Ragin’ Bulls and allowed two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.
