North Stanly 48

Editor’s Note: The North-CATA boys’ story in Sunday’s print edition was incorrect. North Stanly lost at Central Academy 61-48. We apologize for the mistake. The story below is correct.

North Stanly fell to 6-16 overall and 2-10 in the Rocky River Conference with a 61-48 loss at Central Academy.

Senior Eli Greene led the Comets with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 shots behind the three-point arc. He also just missed a double-double after pulling down a team-high nine boards while also leading North with three steals.

Freshman Stephen Misenheimer added 14 points for the Comets on 4-of-8 shooting and was a perfect 5-of-5 at the free-throw line.

The other Comet in double-figures in points was sophomore forward T.J. Smith who also flirted with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Comets have two regular-season games left, both home games. North hosts Forest Hills on Tuesday and West Stanly on Friday night.

Friday’s regular-season finale with the Colts will also feature a special ceremony to rename the North Stanly gym in honor of Lonnie Chandler, who coached the North Stanly girls’ basketball program for 33 seasons.

NS – Eli Greene 15, Stephen Misenheimer 14, T.J. Smith 13, Burris 5, Little 2, Sylvester 1.

Piedmont 57

West Stanly 52

The next-to-last week of the regular season for the West Stanly boys’ basketball squad featured two games in three nights against two teams in the top three of the Rocky River Conference standings.

After holding Monroe to their lowest point total of the season Wednesday, second-place Piedmont, coached by former North and West Stanly head coach Rudi Heath, made the trip over to Red Cross Friday night.

The Colts put together another solid effort in as many nights, again leading their opponent going into the final quarter but eventually suffering a loss 57-52 to the Panthers.

B.J. Hill led West Stanly (8-13, 5-7) with 15 points while Charlie Eudy and Ryan McCormick each added 10 points for the Colts.

Cameron Tripp led three in double figures for Piedmont (17-3, 10-2).
