South Stanly wins series over Hendersonville; West Stanly claims trip to state finals with win over Pisgah

Saturday, May 25, 2013 — In playoff games on Saturday, the South Stanly baseball team and the West Stanly baseball squad had games in their respective Western Regional Series.

The Rebel Bulls claimed their fourth trip in five seasons to the 1A state finals series with a 5-2 road win at Hendersonville.

Jordan Starnes got the complete-game victory on the mound for South Stanly (28-5) while Samuel Linn suffered his first pitching loss of the season for the Bearcats (21-7).

The Bulls will play Midway on May 31 and June 1, either at Mudcats Stadium outside of Raleigh or in Greensboro.

In the 2A softball Western Regional Series, West Stanly claimed a trip to the Walnut Creek Softball Complex for a shot at a state championship with a 14-6 win at Pisgah in Game Two of that series.

The Colts will take on South Granville (23-1) in the 2A State Finals Series May 31 and June 1.
