South Stanly football tops Chatham Central

Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 — The South Stanly Rebel Bulls entered Friday’s homecoming game against Chatham Central looking for the team’s fifth consecutive win over the Bears, along with a chance to move a game over .500 in Yadkin Valley Conference play this season.

Dominating the time of possession, the Bulls continued their winning streak in games against the Bears with a 30-12 win on homecoming night.

Montrell Brewer led the ground game for South Stanly (3-5, 3-2 YVC) with 78 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Luke Burris added 70 rushing yards and a score as well.

Through the air, Burris had nine completions for 138 yards, with Sawyer Lee’s five catches for 93 yards leading the receiving corps.

Chatham Central (1-7, 0-5) had 182 total yards of offense in the game.

“We had too many turnovers, but we did good things at times. I thought we gave good effort, but (Chatham’s) defensive line created issues for us,” South head coach Tasker Fleming said.

The win keeps the Bulls tied with idle Union Academy for fifth in the conference heading into the final three weeks.

“As poorly as we started (this season), we have survived the injuries. Our young kids have improved the last four games and I’m proud of that improvement and that we continue to play focused,” Fleming said.

Cracking the motor, hearing the roar, tearing down the front stretch at 200 mph with numerous other cars doing the same. The rush, excitement and adrenaline pumping all while maintaining focus and poise as you power the aggressive vehicle around the track.
