A few random items for your perusal as the fall seasons for high school sports kick into high gear.
- As the person that does the writing about the exploits of other people, it is not often that anyone writes something about me on another website or publication.
It’s similiar to the feeling that my friend Brian Carter has told me about when people recognize me from Stanly County Monday Night Football when they see me in front of the camera but don’t see Brian behind it.
Some of you might see this as bragging, and I probably could not convince those people otherwise, even though I’m well aware that a pat on the back is only 18 inches from a kick in the backside.
I have been trying to send live game updates on Twitter during games when I’m shooting pictures, which nearly got me hit in the head at a volleyball match recently when I was not paying enough attention.
My efforts on Twitter were recently honored by Brad Crawford of the website carolinapreps.com, who named me as one of the top 50 Twitter accounts that every high school football fan in North Carolina should follow.
I was named 45th on the list, alongside a list of sportswriters, athletic directors and other interested people who share the passion of high school football.
In the future, I will continue to post on Twitter and Facebook and continue to keep you all, my gentle readers, up to date with what is going on sports wise in Stanly County.
- Next week will begin our foray into the realm of prognostication as the second annual SNAP NFL contest kicks off.
Joy Almond won last year by just one game over Sherry Nance, with yours truly taking the bronze medal in third.
This year, 14 folks will be battling for the crown.
Last year was just for fun, but I suspect that this year’s competition level will be even higher.
- I’m so glad to see college football back, and I’m excited to see Jalen and Jordan represent Stanly on the new Charlotte 49ers football team.
I was wrong long ago about the team, so all I can say is this: Have fun, 49er Nation!
