North Stanly tennis tops Queens Grant; Gray Stone tops Comets

Thursday, August 29, 2013 — The Gray Stone tennis squad opened play in the Yadkin Valley Conference West on Wednesday afternoon under humid, gray skies against new YVC member North Stanly.

The Comets took to the courts of the Knapp Tennis Center at Pfeiffer University coming off a win over Queens Grant Monday in North’s first match in the new YVC West Division.

Gray Stone earned their first YVC West win of the season with a 9-0 sweep of the Comets.

The Knights lost just two games in singles’ play and three games in doubles enroute to the win.

4) Caby Styers (GS) def. Madisyn Steelman (NS) 6-0, 6-0

5) Rachel Poston (GS) def. Olivia Haywood (NS) 6-1, 6-0

6) Sarah Lanning (GS) def. Shiny Vang (NS) 6-0, 6-0


1) Fowler/Herlocker defeat Lee/Wang 10-0

2) Lanning/Lydia Hartung defeat Moua/Steelman 10-0

3) Celsea Reeder/Madison Hatley defeat Haywood/Vang 10-3

Queens Grant 3

North earned three forfeits in singles along with one doubles’ forfeit while the Comets took two doubles’ matchups on the court for the win on Monday.


1) Lydia Miller (QG) def. Mkaj Wang (NS) 6-0, 6-0.

2) Kara Smith (QG) def. Gao Xa Xao Moua (NS) 6-3, 6-4.

3) Hanna Hirschman (QG) def. Madisyn Steelman (NS) 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7-3).


1) Wang / Moua (NS) def. Smith / Hirschman (QG) 8-5.

2) Loflin / Oleaha Almond (NS) def. Meghan Lambert / Tasaria McIlwain (QG) 10-1.
