Rocky River Conference Softball Tournament

North Stanly tops Forest Hills, loses in semis to Cuthbertson; West Stanly reaches finals with wins

Thursday, May 2, 2013 — The Rocky River Conference softball tournament opened this week, with North Stanly and West Stanly both hosting first-round games.

Opening Round

North Stanly 8

Forest Hills 3

In the previous games this season between North Stanly and Forest Hills, the Comets and Jackets had combined for 32 runs in two games, with North winning the first 11-8 and then losing later in the year 7-6.

The Comets continued their strong offensive efforts against Forest Hills this season, racking up 11 hits enroute to an 8-3 home win.

West Stanly 10

Union Academy 0

The Colts advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday night with a 10-0 win over Union Academy.


West Stanly 11

Piedmont 1

In 18 previous victories this season for the Colts, West Stanly has scored 10 or more runs in 13 of those wins.

The Colts topped double digits in runs again and advanced to tonight’s Rocky River Conference tournament game at West Stanly with an 11-1 six-inning win over Piedmont.

West takes on Cuthbertson at 7 tonight in the finals of the RRC tournament at West Stanly.

Cuthbertson 6

North Stanly 5

The top-seeded Cavaliers, ranked No. 4 in the latest 2A coaches poll, needed every run they scored against the No. 4-seeded North Stanly Comets. Trailing by four, North staged a comeback that fell just short, losing 6-5.
