The Stanly County Post 76 senior baseball team opened their second-round playoff series on Monday night against a Mooresville Post 66 squad that returned a number of players from last year’s team that also met Stanly in the playoffs.
In that first-round series last season, Mooresville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 8-3 and 5-2 before Stanly rallied for wins of 12-8 and 16-10 to force a deciding fifth game at Lake Norman High School, which Mooresville took 5-4.
The two teams this year split their regular-season matchups, with Mooresville winning 11-2 at Stanly and Post 76 claimed a 15-1 win at Mooresville.
This year’s playoff series started much different than 2012 as Stanly County rallied from a 3-1 deficit to score 11 unanswered runs in the final two innings and take Game One of the series 12-3 at Lake Norman.
Stanly County hosts Mooresville tonight at 7 at Don Montgomery Park.
