Gray Stone golf wins at Badin Inn

Sunday, April 13, 2014 — The five golf teams of Yadkin Valley Conference West took to the links at Badin Inn Golf Club on Thursday for the third regular-season match.

Gray Stone, after entering the match tied for first place in the standings with Union Academy, pulled away from the Cardinals and took first place with the win at Badin Inn.

The Knights as a team shot a 153, 27 shots better than the Cardinals’ 180. Albemarle took third place with a score of 186, followed by South Stanly (195) and North Stanly (210).

Chase Davis of Gray Stone took medalist honors with a -3 round of 32, six strokes better than his teammate, Dray Smith, and Albemarle’s Jay Andrew, both of whom shot 38.  Three players tied for fourth place with rounds of 39: South’s Donald Poole, Albemarle’s William Ivey and Union Academy’s Matthew Schneider.

For the Knights, Will Casmus finished third with a 40, followed by Adam Habeeb (43), Ryan Eudy (45) and Josh Burris (46).

Peyton Howell was third on the Bulldogs’ scores with a 52 and Samantha Holshouser fired a round of 57.

Alex Greshman was second behind Poole on the Bulls’ scoresheet with a 49, followed by Camden Diggs (53), Noah Honeycutt, (54) Sam Carpenter (54) and Nick Page (58).

Brock Faulkner fired a 46 to have the low round of the day for North Stanly, followed by Jack Smith (53), Conner Blalock (55), Andrew Morgan (56), Harrison Kruis (60) and Charleton Edwards (61).

The next YVC West golf matches will be on Monday at The Tillery Tradition Golf Club and Wednesday at Badin Inn.
