North Greenville would connect on 14 three-point shots shooting 40 percent from behind the arc grabbing a 77-70 victory over host Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Tied at 47-47 with 11:08 to play in the second half, each team would start bombing threes from long range to set the tone over the back half of the period. Chris Dean started things for NGU (6-6, 3-5) while Josh Humphrey followed suit for the Falcons. Jimmy Ellis and AJ Clark would each trade triples before Ellis and Matt Ellwood  did the same for a 56-56 contest at the 8:39 mark of the second.

After a couple of minutes went by with each team scoring two, a three-ball from Tyshawn Patterson started to deliver the final blow for North Greenville as Ellis followed with two more triples with Dean also mixing one in during a three-minute span. North Greenville would hit on seven-straight three-pointers during a seven-minute stretch late in the second half. Pfeiffer would get the lead down to four, 74-70, after a free throw with 56 seconds left from Jerod Wallace until Dean added the game’s final three points for the final seven-point margin.

Barton 76

Pfeiffer 68

According to a youth basketball link on the Internet, one point can make a difference with regard to victory or defeat. There will be those who agree with such a statement whereas others will disagree.

Host and #19 Barton College needed a fight on Monday night to take a 76-68 victory over visiting Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action in the Wilson Gym.

In the first half, Barton (12-2, 7-1) opened things up 21-2 run midway through the period. A David McNair tip-in would cut the lead down to 10 with 4:40 to play before the half, but steady pressure by the Bulldogs would lead to a 15-point, 42-27 lead at the break.

Pfeiffer would chip away in the second half getting the lead down to seven at the 11:49 mark of the second after a Jerod Wallace layup before an 8-1 Barton run stretch the lead back to 14 with 7:35 to play. Again, Pfeiffer would battle back trimming the lead down to seven once again, this time on three different occasions, the last with a pair of Wallace free throws with 2:49 remaining.

Montez Singleton would get the Falcons as close as they would get at six, 72-66, with a layup at the 1:17 mark. Singleton then committed a foul 12 seconds later leading to a pair of Gerald Boston free throws aiding in the eight-point win.

Josh Humphrey would lead all scorers on the night dropping 21 on the Bulldogs finishing a board shy of a double-double. AJ Clark would finish with 19 points for the second-straight game tying his career high. Boston was one of five Barton players in double-figures leading the way with 13. Pfeiffer outshot Barton 44 percent to 40 percent from the field but fell by a dozen in the rebound category 44-32.
