South Stanly, Albemarle baseball to play in semis; South softball reaches semifinals

Thursday, May 2, 2013 — The softball and baseball teams from Stanly County playing in the Yadkin Valley Conference opened their respective conference tournaments on Wednesday evening.

Baseball

South Stanly 5

Gray Stone 2


South Stanly, the regular-season champion and No. 1 seed, advanced to the semifinals of the YVC baseball tourney with a 5-2 home win over Gray Stone.

Albemarle 6

North Moore 3


The Bulldogs took advantage of six errors, five walks and two hit batters on Wednesday night to score six runs despite getting just one hit in a 6-3 win at North Moore.

Bryan Blanton had the lone hit of the game for the Bulldogs (11-14), while also taking the win on the mound. K.J. McKinney got the save for Albemarle.

Softball

The No. 2-seeded Rebel Bulls of South Stanly reached the semifinals of the YVC tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 7 seed North Rowan.

South faces North Moore in the semifinals, winners over Gray Stone 4-0. Top-seed Chatham Central advanced over South Davidson 16-1 and No. 5 West Montgomery topped No. 4 East Montgomery 15-7.
