The West Stanly varsity football squad entered Friday’s home game against Cuthbertson still looking for the first win for first-year head coach Jared Bennett, whose first year at the helm of the Colts has been marred by a plague of injuries and a Rocky River Conference schedule against very tough competition.
Despite the return of the talented B.J. Hill to the lineup, the Colts did not put any points on the board and suffered a 49-0 loss to the Cuthbertson Cavaliers on Friday night.
Cuthbertson freshman quarterback Austin Kendall had another solid night for the Cavaliers (5-5, 4-2), going 7-of-13 through the air for 207 yards and four touchdowns, two of which went to senior wide receiver Emmitt Afam, who finished with 106 receving yards as well.
On the ground, Cuthbertson rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns by Afam, Robbie Thomas and Connor Sorensen. Sorensen led with 91 yards on seven carries.
The Colts will host North Stanly at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.
