YVC-West and RRC baseball and softball tournament schedules

Monday, May 5, 2014 — Here are the tournament brackets for the 2014 Yadkin Valley Conference West and Rocky River Conference baseball and softball tournaments this week.

In the Rocky River Conference for baseball, No. 3 West Stanly plays No. 6 Monroe at West Stanly on Tuesday night at 6:30. The winner of the game plays No. 2 Parkwood on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Mount Pleasant High School, with the championship finals on Friday also at MPHS at 7. In the other bracket, Forest Hills and Central Academy play Tuesday with the winnner playing No. 1 Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.

On the softball side, No. 1 seed West Stanly has a bye in the first round and plays the winner of Monday's game between No. 4 Forest Hills and No. 5 Central Academy on Tuesday at 5 p.m. No. 3 Mount Pleasant and No. 6 Monroe play Monday at 5 p.m. with the winner playing No. 2 Parkwood on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The championship game of the tournament is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.

The YVC West baseball tournament will be hosted by South Stanly High School this week. The tournament opens today at 4:30 p.m. with No. 4 Union Academy and No. 5 Queen's Grant at 4:30 p.m. and No. 3 South Stanly versus No. 6 Gray Stone at 7. On Tuesday night, the South Stanly/Gray Stone winner plays No. 2 North Stanly at 4:30 p.m. and the Union Academy/Queen's Grant winner plays No. 1 Albemarle at 7. The championship finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The YVC West softball tournament will also be hosted by South Stanly. No. 4 Union Academy plays No. 5 Albemarle at 4:30 p.m. today with No. 3 South Stanly playing No. 6 Queen's Grant at 6:30 p.m. The semifinal round will be Wednesday night, with the Union Academy / Albemarle Winner playing No. 1 North Stanly at 4:30 and the South Stanly/Queen's Grant winner playing Gray Stone at 6:30. The championship finals are Thursday at South Stanly at 6.

    The Stanly County 15 year-old All-Stars Babe Ruth Baseball team battled its way through the losers’ bracket after suffering a 10-9 loss to the Union County Americans to reach the championship finals.
    Stanly rallied to force a deciding third game but Union County prevailed to earn a trip to the regionals in Varina, Virginia.

    Don Montgomery Park in Albemarle played host this weekend to the state championship tournament for the Western Divsion of Babe Ruth Baseball for 13 year olds.
    After having started with a win Friday night over Union County American, the Stanly County All-Stars posted three more victories en route to the tournament title and a berth into the regionals starting July 29 in Sarasota, Florida.
