Stanly County Baseball Notebook

Bulldogs lose to Eagles, top Gray Stone; South Stanly beats North Rowan; North Stanly tops CATA

Thursday, March 21, 2013 — In baseball action this week, the Albemarle varsity squad played back-to-back games against East Montgomery and Gray Stone, while South Stanly hosted North Rowan and North Stanly traveled to Central Academy.

Monday’s Game

After two non-conference games on Saturday, the Bulldogs returned to Yadkin Valley Conference play on Monday with a road game at East Montgomery.

The Bulldogs rallied in the seventh inning for three runs after trailing most of the game 2-0 but the Eagles rallied for a 4-3 win.

The Bulldogs made the trip over to CMC-Northeast Stadium, home of the Kannapolis Intimidators, on Tuesday afternoon for an afternoon conference game with Gray Stone.

Albemarle scored in all but one of the five innings in the game, earning a 14-1 win over the Knights.

The Comets returned to conference play on Tuesday with a trip down to Union County on Tuesday for a game with the Central Academy Cougars.

North broke the game wide open in the third inning and went on to the 10-0 five-inning win over the Cougars.

The start to the season for the South Stanly baseball squad has kept alive a win streak that was started during their 1A state title run last season.

After 14 wins to finish the 2012 season, the Bulls have run the table to start this season, including three wins in two days with a 5-3 win over West Montgomery last Friday and two wins at the County Clash 24 hours later.

Thanks to the weather, the Bulls’ game with North Rowan was postponed to Wednesday night, where South Stanly got another solid pitching performance and used some craftiness from a veteran player to win its 22nd straight game 4-1.
