The Tillery Tradition Golf Club, just across the Stanly County border, played host Thursday to a Yadkin Valley Conference West golf match between Albemarle, Gray Stone, North Stanly, South Stanly and Union Academy.
Gray Stone won both the team event and had the individual medalist for the match as well as Dray Smith’s round of 37 edged Albemarle’s Jay Andrew by one stroke. Chase Davis of Gray Stone finished in third place with 39 and Union Academy’s Jared Allen was fourth with a 40.
In the team standings, the Knights took first place with a score of 161, followed by Union Academy in second place with 174. Albemarle and South Stanly tied for third with 187 and North Stanly finished fifth (209).
Will Casmus was the third-best finisher of the day for Gray Stone with a 42, followed by Adam Habeeb (43) and Josh Burris (45).
William Ivey and Payton Howell each shot rounds of 43 for the Bulldogs.
Donald Poole was the low shooter of the day for South Stanly, completing the nine-hole match with a score of 42. He was followed on the Rebel Bulls by Nick Page (47), Tanner Franklin (49), Alex Gresham (49) and a tie for the fifth spot between Sam Carpenter and Camden Diggs (55).
Brock Faulkner fired the low round of the match for the Comets with a 45, followed by Jack Smith (50), Connor Blalock (57), Andrew Morgan (57) and Harrison Kruis (59).
The next YVC West match will be today at Piney Point Golf Club in Norwood.
