West Stanly wins at home over Butler; North Stanly tops Chatham Central; Gray Stone downs West Montgomery

Thursday, April 3, 2014 — In softball games this week, West Stanly swept a doubleheader and faced off Wednesday against a 4A opponent, while Gray Stone, North Stanly and South Stanly all had games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wednesday’s Games

West Stanly 10, Butler 0

The Colts wrapped up a four-game home stand on Wednesday night hosting the 4A Butler Bulldogs in a non-conference matchup that saw the Colts dominate both on offense and defense in a 10-0 five-inning victory.

Brennan Broadaway allowed just one hit over five innings on the mound to earn the win for West (9-4).

West second baseman Samantha Lowder led the offense with four RBIs, three coming on a one-out three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the third.

The Colts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Walker Barbee RBI single, then scored three runs in the team’s final three innings at the plate.

Butler’s only rally of the game came in the top of the third inning, when the Bulldogs had runners on first and second with walks with two outs but Broadaway got out of the inning with a groundout to the mound.

Leading 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Lowder delivered an RBI single in the fourth then later scored on Kesley Pardini’s two RBI base hit to put the Colts up 7-0.

The Colts ended the game in the fifth with three more runs, getting RBIs from Abby Pate and Broadaway then scoring the game-winning run on an overthrow to the plate with the bases loaded.

West Stanly returns to conference play tonight at Forest Hills.
