SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College fell to visiting Queens University 2-1 on Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action at Frock Field. Catawba now falls to 5-3-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the conference. With the win Queens improves to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the SAC.
The Royals entered the second half leading 1-0 over Catawba after an Erick Suarez goal in the 35th minute. A Queens own goal would tie the game up for Catawba in the 80th minute.
The tie did not last long when, just two minutes later, Suarez would connect with senior Gersi Cilingiri who put in the game-winning goal.
Queens outshot the Indians 13-8 on the night and controlled the corners 10-3. Catawba’s goalie, Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS/NC Central) recorded six saves while his counterpart, Montrell Morgan saved just four shots.
Catawba returns to Frock Field on Saturday to host Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
