The Albemarle Bulldogs football team fell to 0-2 overall on the season on the road Friday night at the Central Cabarrus Vikings by a score of 68-34.
Bryan Blanton had a big night at quarterback for the Bulldogs, going 11-of-25 for 323 yards and four touchdowns, two to Timmie White along with touchdown throws to Robert Mack and Travis Bennett. White also finished with 201 receiving yards on six catches, the longest of which was a 78-yard touchdown catch to tie the game 7-7 in the first quarter.
As a team, the Bulldogs rushed for 102 yards on 26 carries; Robert Mack led Albemarle with 35 rushing yards.
Defensively, the Bulldogs gave up 302 yards and seven rushing touchdowns to Vikings running back Kenny Purvis. The 68 points yielded to Central is the most points a Bulldog team has allowed in the past 51 years, and the 102 combined points are the second-most in that span.
Albemarle host West Stanly on Friday night in the second round of the battle for the Stanly Cup.
