Stanly County junior Legion squad moves to 4-0 with wins

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 — The Post 76 junior baseball team opened a four-game road trip last week before the team gets a weeklong break in the 2014 schedule.

After rain forced the cancellation of Thursday’s non-league game at South Rowan, Stanly County continued on the road Saturday with a matchup at Mocksville and a Sunday evening game at Northwest Cabarrus High School against the Kannapolis O’s.

Stanly County 8, Mocksville 7

The Post 76 juniors rallied from an early four-run deficit and held off a late rally to move to 3-0 on the season with an 8-7 win over Mocksville.

Will Moore earned the win on the mound for Stanly, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Mocksville took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the first, then added three more runs in the second on an RBI double and two runs scoring on another fielding error.

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the third inning, Stanly County rallied for four runs to tie the game including RBIs from Seth Smyly and Stewart Laws.

Andrew Kitts led off the top of the fourth with a single and scored when Eli Blake reached on an error to put Post 76 up by a run.

Stanly built a four-run lead in the sixth with three runs that proved important later in the game. Kitts singled and later scored on a wild pitch, then Blake drove in two runs with a triple for an 8-4 lead.

After Jarrod Swaringen relieved Moore in the sixth, Mason Sweet replaced Swaringen in the seventh and ran into some trouble. An RBI single and a run from a wild pitch cut Stanly’s lead to two.

Mocksville then scored on a sacrifice fly to pull within a run, but the Stanly defense got the runner trying to tag up to third to end the game.

Pulling into Charlotte Motor Speedway, the first thing one may think about is getting in one of those really fast cars and taking a spin around the track.
Cracking the motor, hearing the roar, tearing down the front stretch at 200 mph with numerous other cars doing the same. The rush, excitement and adrenaline pumping all while maintaining focus and poise as you power the aggressive vehicle around the track.
