Post 76 juniors go 1-1 in weekend home games

Tuesday, June 17, 2014 — The Post 76 juniors hosted two non-conference games this weekend, taking on the Kannapolis Reds on Friday and Randolph County on Saturday.

Friday’s game saw the host juniors post an early lead only to see the visiting team rally to tie the game with runs in three straight innings.

A tumultuous eighth inning saw Stanly go down by two runs only to rally for three runs to win the game 6-5 and keep the team’s undefeated streak alive.

Aaron Walters earned the win in relief for Stanly County, allowing no earned runs on two hits in the final three innings of the game.

Stanly led 3-0 after one on Carson Lisenby’s two-RBI double and an RBI single from Trey Lisk.

The Reds picked away at the Post 76 lead, scoring single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings on a steal of home, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI fielder’s choice, respectively, to force extra innings.

Kannapolis took a 5-3 lead in the top of the eighth with a two-out, RBI double, but Stanly found a way in the bottom of the frame to score three times. Two walks and catcher’s interference loaded the bases, then two runners scored on one wild pitch, then Aaron Walters scored with two outs on an error by the left fielder for the win.

Randolph Co. 6, Stanly County 5 (9)

Stanly’s seven-game win streak ended in extra innings at home Saturday in a non-league game with Randolph County when the visitors scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth.

Stewart Laws allowed no earned runs on one hit in taking the loss for Post 76.

Eli Blake and Trey Lisk each drove in runs for Stanly County.

Stanly hosts South Rowan Wednesday.
