RALEIGH – A trio of lottery winners came forward Tuesday to collect their $182,094 share of a Carolina Cash 5 jackpot. The winners are Kathleen Byers of Shelby, Katrina Williams of Cornelius and LaChrisa Pittman of Charlotte. Each winner’s share of $60,698 was worth $41,274 after required state and federal withholdings.
Their lucky ticket, purchased at the Kmart on Dixon Boulevard in Shelby, was one of two that beat odds of 1 in 575,757 to win half of the $364,188 jackpot in the Sept. 11 drawing.
The other ticket to win $182,094 in the drawing was sold at the Friendly Mart on East Main Street in Albemarle. That ticketholder has until March 10 of next year – 180 days from the draw date – to claim the prize.
Drawings for Carolina Cash 5 are held at 11:22 p.m. each night. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and rolls to a larger amount unless one or more tickets match all five numbers drawn. A $425,000 jackpot is on the line for Tuesday’s drawing.
Ticket sales for games such as Carolina Cash 5 have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.9 billion for education programs statewide. Details on how lottery funds have made a difference in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties are available on the “Where the Money Goes” page on the lottery’s website.
