Tuesday, December 16, 2013 — Coming out of a closed session last night, the Albemarle City Council authorized City Manager Raymond Allen to begin working with County Manager Andy Lucas on the development of a emergency service radio tower at the Tuckertown Water Treatment Plant.

“The county is building a new emergency communications radio systems... they have to have new tower sites in the northern part of Stanly County,” City Manager Raymond Allen said.

While the plant is located in New London, the property is owned by the City of Albemarle.

“[The new emergency communication system] will serve all of the municipal police departments, the sheriffs departments, volunteer fire departments,” Allen said.

The city will allow the county access to a section of the Tuckertown property through a no-cost lease in an effort to further the project.
