Friday, November 9, 2012 — The man who was killed last Saturday morning in a single-car accident has been identified.

Dipakbhai Chandulal Patel, 45, died after his car ran off the right shoulder of Cottonville Road in Norwood, crossed a ditch, struck a tree and then burst into flames.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper A.T. Bost who investigated the accident, the man was referred to as “Pacman” in the Norwood community.

Bost, who had previously met Patel, referred to him as a “super, nice guy.”

Patel’s home address was 1116 Yarrow Road in Matthews, but he had been working at the BP station in Norwood.

At this time, Bost’s investigation has pointed that alcohol and excessive speed did not play a factor in the accident. With those two factors dismissed unless pending blood work shows otherwise, Bost said that fatigue could have been an issue causing Patel to fall asleep at the wheel.
