‘Dancing with the Stars’ preparations under way

Monday, August 19, 2013 — The stars of Stanly County will take the stage 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center for the second annual Stanly County Dancing with the Stars.

Twelve dance teams from Stanly County will compete in this event to raise money for the Butterfly House Child Advocacy Center in Albemarle.

The Butterfly House, located on the campus of Stanly Regional Medical Center, provides a variety of services for children who are possible victims of abuse and neglect or who have witnessed traumatic events.

Each team dancing in the event includes one local “star” and one local “pro.”

The following dance teams will perform dances in the following styles:

Alex Sullivan (star) and Sheila Chase (pro) - Shag.

Amy Burleson (star) and Tyler Foster (pro) - Disco.                                                                    Brigette Myers (star) and Hernan Jaimes Garcia (pro) - Mambo.

Drew Laucher (star) and Krista Tindal (pro) - Electro Swing/Charleston.

Eddie Wall (star) and Dr. Yolanda Johnson (pro) - East Coast Swing.

Emily Smith Krouskop (star) and Ryan Knight (pro) - Latin Mashup.

 Holli Lowder (star) and D.J. Zaleski (pro) - Swing.

n Michael Furr (star) and Melissa Zaleski (pro) - Jive/Swing.

Peter Asciutto (star) and Cindy Brewer (pro) - 50s Freestyle.

Joshua Smith (star) and Kasmine Shankle (pro) - Country Swing.

Pamela Sullivan (star) and Archie Chase (pro) - Shag.

 Sherri Swaringen (star) and Louis Trejo (pro) - Contemporary/Quickstep.

Laura Almond, of Stanly County Schools, is producing the event. The judges will be Pam Blake, of last year’s winning team; Roger Hudson, of Hudson Pools in Richfield; and Barbara Bowers of Albemarle.

A “People's Choice” award will also be given to the team with the most audience and fan votes.

Votes are currently available for purchase for $5 online and are considered a tax-deductible donation to the Butterfly House.

Tickets to the event cost $25 and are also available online. Tickets may also be purchased at Starnes Jewelers in Albemarle or by calling the Butterfly House at (704) 984-4625.
