Locust to address sign issues

Thursday, April 11, 2013 — As the weather has gotten warmer, the city of Locust has seen a growing issue of signs and banners in use that are outside of regulations within the city’s sign ordinance.

Councilman Mike Hinson mentioned the issue during the council meeting Thursday night.

Other councilmembers agreed that signs have become an issue, so much so that Planning and Zoning Director Scott Efird remarked that he could spend all day picking up signs that are not in compliance.

Councilman Larry Baucom, who agreed the ordinance should be enforced,  asked that council use caution on the matter, so as not to damage their reputation concerning businesses.
