Name evolves with service abilities

Home not just for Lutherans

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 — A change is coming to the Lutheran Home of Albemarle, although Administrator Priscilla Vint calls it a minor one.

The Lutheran Home, at 24724 South U.S. 52, is changing its name to Trinity Place.

“We’ve always had this discussion in Stanly County, and although the name is Lutheran, we serve predominantly Baptist (families). (People) thought because it said Lutheran that we were exclusive, so we wanted to move away from that,” Vint said.

“We didn’t want to move away from Christian roots so, we came up with Trinity.”

Vint reiterated that the change in name does not mark a change in ownership. Lutheran Services Carolinas has been and remains the owner of Trinity Place and the other locations across North Carolina which are choosing their own version of a new name that begins with Trinity.

Vint said having the name change also reflects more on their abilities and services.

“Our business has changed. We were truly a home, and people lived out the rest of their days (here). Today, we have a component of care that is custodial and a new thing of rehabilitation,” Vint said.

“People come here for short periods of time to gain the physical strength to return back to home safely.”

Each facility is still seen as a ministry of the Lutheran Evangelical Church of America, but the majority of their revenue has come from patient care.

Getting used to the name change may take some time to get accustomed to, Vint said, but as for the way they do business, it has minimal impact.

“We’re hoping new signs will arrive in January,” she said.

“It’s a minor detail really. And I believe based off that, (people saying) Lutheran Home will persist in spite of our efforts, but we’re not ashamed of our Lutheran heritage either.”

Last week I made my annual trip up the mountain to Sparta. My friends have a secluded home near a babbling brook. Their home and property are a haven for peace. It’s a two-plus hour ride to their home that doesn’t feel that long because I look so forward to my time with this great couple. When I arrive, the conversation seems to pick up right where we left it the last time we saw each other.
