In what was a tough call, the Albemarle City Council appointed Bill Aldridge to the District Three council seat last night.
“I’m extremely honored,” Aldridge said.
“I look forward to serving the citizens of Albemarle.”
The corporate trainer for Hendrick Automotive also serves on the Stanly County Board of Adjustments, the United Way Board of Directors and as a volunteer reserve police officer.
He will hold his new position on the council through December 2015 and plans to run for re-election at that time.
While council members were happy with the decision, they said it wasn’t an easy one to make.
“Many of [the candidates] are well qualified,” council member Troy Alexander said.
“I wish we could appoint more than just one.”
Council member Chris Whitley agreed.
“Really, we couldn’t go wrong,” he said.
In light of that stiff competition, council members were reluctant to pinpoint a single deciding factor in their decision.
However, they were quick to agree that Aldridge was strong in every category they looked at.
“He’s passionate, he’s involved with the community, he’s dedicated to the city... He gave a strong presentation,” Mayor Ronnie Michael said.
“We’re glad to have him on board.”
