SCS Facilities Committee Meeting

Monday, February 11, 2013 — There were numerous items on the agenda for the SCS school board Facilities Committee meeting on Monday night, from the awnings at WSMS to the use of the playground equipment at Ridgecrest Elementary.

Damon Rhodes spoke for West Stanly Middle School, requesting that the WSMS be allowed to install the awning they have already purchased in between the mobile units on thier campus. Additionally, the PTO wants to be allowed to purchase an awning that would run from the mobile units to the main building.

The committee voted to let them continue with their efforts and purchase the awning at no cost to the school board.

Toby Thorpe, director for Albemarle Parks and Recreation (AP&R), appeared before the committee to make a request in regards to East Albemarle’s campus.

  • Doug Creamer Friends and contentment

Last week I made my annual trip up the mountain to Sparta. My friends have a secluded home near a babbling brook. Their home and property are a haven for peace. It’s a two-plus hour ride to their home that doesn’t feel that long because I look so forward to my time with this great couple. When I arrive, the conversation seems to pick up right where we left it the last time we saw each other.
