New London man killed in crash

Victim crossed centerline

Wednesday, July 9, 2014 — A New London man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he crossed the centerline of N.C. Highway 24-27 Bypass, according to Albemarle police.

Bryan Derek Forsythe, 30, was killed on impact in the 4:23 p.m. crash, Capt. J.D. Huneycutt said. Forsythe was driving westbound when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound service truck, driven by Joshua Cory Bryant, 27, of Richfield, Huneycutt said.

Emergency personnel had to cut Forsythe from the wreckage of his 2001 Volvo, Huneycutt said.

Bryant was driving a 2007 utility Ford truck that was towing a piece of farm equipment. He complained of no injuries at the scene, but later went to Stanly Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle, Huneycutt said.

Huneycutt said there was no indication as to why Forsythe veered across the centerline and into the path of Bryant.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lane of N.C. Highway 24-27 Bypass near Quality Equipment, formerly Bowers Implement Company.

Police had to close the four-lane bypass for three hours while they investigated the crash.

  • Doug Creamer Friends and contentment

Last week I made my annual trip up the mountain to Sparta. My friends have a secluded home near a babbling brook. Their home and property are a haven for peace. It’s a two-plus hour ride to their home that doesn’t feel that long because I look so forward to my time with this great couple. When I arrive, the conversation seems to pick up right where we left it the last time we saw each other.
