Ryan's plans to re-open Albemarle restaurant

Wednesday, July 17, 2013 — Ryan’s Family Steakhouse, a buffet-style restaurant, will soon be reopening its doors in Albemarle, according to Ray Allen, city manager.

Allen explained that he spoke with the director of security for Ryan’s on July 12, at which time he was informed that the Albemarle location, 625 N.C. 24-27 Bypass, would be re-opening.

“He told me that Albemarle was a good market for them when they were in business, so they’re wanting the Albemarle location to be the first one they re-open,” Allen said, adding that the second restaurant to re-open would be in Gaffney, S.C.

The company plans to spend approximately $750,000 on interior and exterior renovations at the Albemarle facility, the work for which is expected to begin within the next few weeks. The restaurant is estimated to open near the end of the summer, according to Allen.

Ryan’s closed its Albemarle location June 19, 2012 as part of bankruptcy proceedings after its parent comapny, Buffet, Inc., filed for Chapter 11 Protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in January 2012.
