Sheriff's Office arrests Locust man for child sex crimes

Friday, June 13, 2014 — A Locust man remains in jail on charges of sex crimes with a juvenile.

Darrin Michael Riggsbee, 20, is charged with two counts of first-degree statutory rape, two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of first-degree sex offense with a child, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim is reportedly under the age of 13 and an acquaintance of Riggsbee, Capt. Charles Hatley said.

Stanly County Communications received a 911 call about the incidents that occurred in the evening between June 9 and June 10 at the victim’s residence, Hatley said. The child’s parent called 911 to report the rape.

After the victim identified Riggsbee as the assailant, investigators arrested the unemployed Riggsbee at his Coley Store residence, Hatley said.

Riggsbee is jailed under a $200,000 bond. He was given a June 30 court date.
