Man wanted on child sex crimes returns to Stanly

Combs under $1 million bond

Friday, January 17, 2014 — On Dec. 31, 2013, Albemarle Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation investigated a case of sex crimes involving several juveniles. Warrants were obtained on James Lonnie Combs, 53, who was awaiting extradition in Mississippi after being arrested by Mississippi authorities on warrants that were issued in Albemarle.

Combs was transported back to Stanly County on Jan. 16, where he was served with 22 counts of first-degree sex offense with a child, two counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of communicating threats, one count of maiming without malice and one count of crime against nature.  

Combs received a $1 million secured bond and has a court date of 9:30 a.m. Jan. 27.

Law enforcement is concerned that there may be more victims that have not come forward. Albemarle Police Department and State Bureau of Investigation are asking for anyone else who may be a victim or knows of any information to contact the Albemarle Police Department at (704) 984-9500 and speak with Detective Springer.
