The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a winter weather watch from noon Tuesday until noon Thursday for Stanly County.
“We have a very large and extended weather system moving across the area,” Nick Petro, a meterologist with the NWS, said Monday afternoon.
Petro said light precipitation, with one to two inches of snow, is possible Tuesday.
“The main story is going to be Wednesday and Wednesday night,” he said.
“It could be just a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.”
Late morning Wednesday into the early afternoon could be icy, with a substantial ice accumulation projected for Wednesday night, Petro said.
