Monday, March 17, 2014 — A North Stanly High School student was critically injured in a car crash Monday morning.

Katelin C. Rush, 17, of New London remains in serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Trooper M.E. Taylor said Rush turned into the path of a pickup truck driven by Justin Foster, 19.

Rush turned left from Random Drive when Foster’s southbound Ford F-150 slammed into Rush’s driver’s side door on U.S. Highway 52 at 7:52 a.m., Taylor said. Foster was traveling between 55 and 60 mph at the time of impact.

Rush was believed to have dropped her brother off at school before she headed to class at North Stanly when the crash occurred, Taylor said.

Rush was taken to CMC by ambulance after poor weather conditions thwarted transport by helicopter, Taylor said.

Charges against Rush are pending, Taylor said.
