Radio team invades Albemarle on Hometown Tour

Monday, May 6, 2013 — “This is the best area. There’s too much to do around here,” said Drex of Drex and Maney Mornings, a radio show on KISS 95.1, a CBS Radio affiliate in Charlotte.

Kiss 95.1 FM hosted its morning radio show at the McDonald’s on N.C. 24-27 in Albemarle on the morning of April 19 as part of an on-going tour that took the duo to their listeners in surrounding counties, including Stanly County. The tour is in honor of their first year of having their morning radio show and is called Drex and Maney’s Hometown Tour. This was the third stop on the tour.

Set up in the dining room of McDonald’s, the pair along with their other host, Cassiday, conducted their radio show right there in the restaurant. The hosts were happy to take pictures with anyone who asked.

“We’ve got a lot of listeners out in Albemarle, so we wanted to get out here and see what it was like,” Maney said.

“We’ve been to Vac & Dash and Albemarle Music Store. The mayor of Albemarle came through,” Drex said.

“We had Kellie Pickler on the phone earlier. I understand she’s from the area.”

Additionally, the Albe-marle High School Marching Band drumline stopped by, as well as Albemarle Councilwoman Martha Sue Hall. The show’s producer even stopped in El Ranchito for a signature Mexican dish from Albemarle.

“Yeah, the only thing we didn’t get to do was hang out with the Turtle Man. I wanted to see those massive turtles, maybe even ride one,” Maney said.

Ronnie Thornton, owner of the McDonald’s franchises in Stanly County, was there to join in the festivities.

“They wanted to tour small towns and where better to go in a town than the McDonald’s? It’s where most of America goes to eat,” Thornton said.

“We’re very happy to host Drex and Maney this morning. People have been extremely excited about what’s going on and we’re just happy to represent Albemarle.”

“This has been a great experience,” said James Carter, the general manager at the McDonald’s on 24-27.

“Everything has been smooth. We stayed late last night getting the store in order, but my team has risen to the occasion. Everyone’s been really excited, it’s just been a great time.”
