Albemarle presents proposed budget

Monday, May 6, 2013 — City Manager Ray Allen presented the proposed budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year at Monday's city council meeting.

Included in the proposed budget, Allen recommended that there be no tax hike concerning property tax.

The budget did include tax increases for utility rates and water and sewer rates.

Council set the public hearing for the proposed budget for their next meeting, Monday, May 20.

    Gardeners are facing challenges with the weather this year. It seemed like we were getting great conditions in April and May. The weather was warm and we were getting some good rains. Then sometime in June the rain stopped. It got so dry that I didn’t have to cut the grass. While I enjoyed the break, the garden was not happy at all. I was having to water quite a bit to keep the vegetable garden alive and growing.

    Forget Col. Mustard, the library and the candlestick, this time it was the drama student in the Jesse F. Niven Center with the bottle of poison.
    At this year’s Uwharrie Players Drama Camp, campers took the stage not just to act, but to figure out who poisoned Gladdis, the talent scout.
