Man faces multiple indecent liberties, rape charges

Thursday, April 3, 2014 — A man was arrested in South Carolina and extradited to Stanly County following an investigation into alleged indecent liberties and rape incidents, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.

Joey Burns Harkey, 59, of 121 North Pointe Dr., Lexington, S.C., was brought to the Stanly County Jail March 31. He was given a $1 million bond and issued an initial District Court date of April 1.

He faces six felony charges of statutory rape and six felony charges.

On Feb. 26, the Sheriff’s Office received a report from an individual about multiple indecent liberties and rape incidents alleged to have happened between Nov. 22, 2012 and Feb. 23, 2014.
